Abstract

In 1537, 60 Anabaptists were imprisoned in the Oberhaus castle dungeons. Their crime, a nonacceptance of the statereligion, and through their confinement, hymns were created and sang forming the centrality of what would become theAnabaptist hymnary. 486 years later, more than 100 people attended a conference exploring Mennonite music. This articleexamines 10 churches from across the denomination(s), considering the musical pieces that appear most frequently, andthe question concerning the Biblical usage of musical instruments, and how they have been understood and adopted.
